Dressing The Set

Default FrameA Craig Hawes musical can be staged effectively with very simple scenery and props.  One effective way is to have a plain black backcloth with brightly coloured flats (large flat pieces of scenery made from plywood or even thick cardboard) placed in front. Think about careful use of colour, and often "cartoony" works much better than "realistic" Keep things bright, fun and sparkly and you can’t go wrong! Props are often great fun for children to design and make, and where possible ensure that the props are also larger than life, fun, bright and cartoony. For example, in Ali Baba & The Bongo Bandits, don't use an ordinary ketchup bottle - try to create an oversized one, perhaps with some glitter for added sparkle!
