Your Own Script

Your script is your guidebook to the whole production. It contains all the words that people speak (“dialogue”), all the song words that people sing (“lyrics”) and instructions on what to do or where to move ("stage directions"). It will be split up into different numbered scenes, each scene being drama that happens in a particular place or time. The dialogue is split up into different "lines" that are spoken by each character, so it is easy to see who says what. Often a script will have other information such as a list of characters or suggestions on how to stage the production, including ideas about costume or scenery. Your script is very important as you prepare for a show, so keep it safe and treat it well!
