Handy Hints on...

Blocking

Default FrameAll Craig Hawes musicals almost direct themselves.  The stage directions and information in the scripts are so self explanatory that the production should be straightforward to stage. Encourage your students to read the stage directions and take it a page or a scene at a time. Once a scene has been “blocked” - roughly set– it should be rehearsed several times before linking it with other scenes or choreography. Build up the links until you are rehearsing several scenes at once. Try to keep the energy levels lifted. The rehearsal process can end up being rather long and boring if you are not careful and the last thing you want is for your young cast to lose interest. Use lots of encouragement and once your performers can see the show coming together their excitement will add to their performance!
